Kidnapped Delhi girl rescued from Darjeeling after nine months

New Delhi: A 15-year-old Delhi girl has been rescued nine months after she was allegedly kidnapped, gang-raped and forced into prostitution in West Bengal's Darjeeling, police said today.

Police say a woman has been arrested who had bought the girl for Rs eight lakh.

The victim, a class 9 student, was allegedly kidnapped by her friend from Hazrat Nizamuddin area of South East Delhi in October last year, said P Karunakaran, DCP (South East).

Though her parents had approached the police the next day, the girl had remained untraced till August 2 when she made a phone call to her mother to say that she was being regularly beaten up by her kidnappers.

Her mother immediately informed the police which traced the phone number to Darjeeling.

A police team was sent to Darjeeling on August 6 and the kidnapped girl was rescued on August 9.

She was brought to the national capital and reunited with her family last week, the senior official said.

The girl told the police that she was kept in confinement in several locations in Delhi and NCR after her kidnap. She alleged that she was allegedly gang raped by the kidnappers at these locations.

She was later sold to a woman who runs an inter-state prostitution racket.
