Four killed in north Delhi fire

New Delhi: Four members of a family, including two girls, were charred to death in the capital on Friday afternoon while two others suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out in a room following leakage of gas from a cylinder, police said.

The incident took place around 2.25 pm at Kashiram market in north Delhi's Roop Nagar area.

A police official said that due to leakage from the pipe of the cylinder, gas collected in the room where the family members were sitting.

"As soon as one of the family members lit a match, fire engulfed the room and all were burnt badly," said the official.

All were rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Pappu (30), Bihari (15), Preeti (9), and Annu (6), while the injured are Phoolwati (50), and Mohan Singh (25).

Mohan Singh has been discharged while Phoolwati is still in critical condition.

"Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. They doused the fire within an hour," said a fire officer.
