New Delhi: The body of a missing student of Delhi University has been recovered from her friend's house in Shakti Nagar, north-west Delhi.

Arzoo Singh's charred body was found inside the shaft in ventilation area. The police have arrested her friend and neighbour Naveen Khatri.

The family said Ms Singh -- a third-year student of Laxmi Bai college -- had left for college on the morning of February 2. The search for her started when she failed to return by 4 pm.

Naveen Khatri and Ms Singh had wished to get married and told their families so four months ago, but both families had raised objections, a relative was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

"We came to know that Naveen used to meet her regularly even after the families' disagreement," said Ms Singh's sister Akanksha.

On February 4, Mr Khatri was to get married to another girl. "If they had any doubt that my sister will create problems during the wedding, they should have talked to us. We would have sorted this out... Why did they kill her?" she was quoted as saying.
