Delhi Government Orders Demolition Of 'Dangerous' School Building

A building at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalya in Kanjhawla will be demolished.

New Delhi: Delhi Government has ordered demolition of one of its school buildings while five others have been vacated, after they were found "dangerous" for staff and students during inspections.

The Land and Estate branch of the Delhi's Directorate of Education had found six government school buildings dangerous including Kanjhawla Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalya, Govt Girls Senior Secondary school -Shahbad Dairy, Jahangirpuri, Bhalswa Dairy; Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya-Pul Bangash and Dariya Par Kalan.

"A meeting in this regard was convened yesterday (Monday) to discuss long-standing issue of demolition of six government school buildings," a senior government official said.

While the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalya in Kanjhawla was found to be posing great risk to another building in the vicinity and approvals have been obtained for its demolition, the other five buildings have been vacated and their demolition may pave way for construction of new buildings, he said, adding, the schools running in these buildings have been shifted to alternate buildings.

The inspecting panel has also identified five other schools as dangerous-Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya-Narela and Shakarpur, Sarvodaya Vidyalaya Auchandi, Government Girls Senior Secondary School-Shahbad Daulatpur, Khayala and Uttam Nagar, Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya Paschim Vihar.

"A call in this regard will be taken later whether these buildings need to be vacated or demolished," the official said.
