Delhi Government Forms Committee To Review 'Discrepancies' In Circle Rates

The government's move comes after it received several complaints against the existing rates.

New Delhi: An empowered committee has been constituted by the Delhi government to review "discrepancies" in the circle rates in certain areas of the national capital.

According to a senior official, the Revenue Department has sought public suggestions on the review of circle rates by August 16.

The department has decided to review circle rates - minimum rates below which a property cannot be registered and forms the basis of stamp duty and registration charges for a property.

The government's move comes after it received several complaints against the existing rates.

The official further said that the committee will look into the grievances as well as the suggestions.

"After receiving suggestions and grievances, the empowered committee will submit the recommendations to the Delhi government," the official added.

A section of industrialists had counted anomalies in the property rates as one of the single-biggest problems in the industrial areas as the sale and purchase of properties has come to a standstill.

The city administration has revised circle rates upwardly four times since 2011. The last revision was done during the President's Rule in September 2014.
