Delhi Government Constitutes State Advisory Council For Education

The Council to be headed by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will have six ex-officio members and eight nominated members.

New Delhi: Delhi Government has constituted a State Advisory Council which will advise it on effective implementation of the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.

The Council to be headed by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will have six ex-officio members and eight nominated members.

"The function of the State Advisory Council shall be to advise the government on implementation of the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, in an effective manner," Directorate of Education (DoE) said in a notification.

DoE Director Padmini Singhla, will serve as the secretary to the State Advisory Council, terms and conditions for which will be notified later.

The Ex-officio members appointed to the council include Education Secretary, DoE Director, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights, State Project Director (Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan), Additional Director of Education (Schools) and Director, SCERT.

The members nominated by the government include Ambedkar University professors Venita Kaul and Akha Kaihrii Mao; St Mary School principal Annie Koshi; DU professor D Parimala; Sisodia's advisor Atishi Marlena; Manzil Welfare Society founder Ravi Gulati; Shailendra Kumar Sharma, Head of Operations, Pratham Education Foundation.

"The period of tenure of the nominated members of State Advisory Council would be of two years from the date of issue of this notification," the DoE circular added.
