Delhi: 1,100 men fined for travelling in women's only Metro coaches
New Delhi: Police have challaned over 1,100 men for travelling in coaches reserved for women in Delhi Metro trains and collected Rs 2.90 lakh as fine.

The largest number of prosecutions were reported by Rajouri Garden Metro police station (254) and Kalkaji Mandir police station (251).

"The Delhi Metro Rail Police was able to get 1,161 persons prosecuted and a fine amounting Rs 2,90,500 was recovered from them," B S Gurjar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways), said today.

He said the Delhi Metro Rail Police has taken initiative to stop the menace of men entering reserved coaches and to prevent harassment of women passengers.

"The staff of Metro Police are specifically deployed to check reserved coaches. Male passengers found in these reserve coaches were prosecuted and those found in these coaches were produced before the Station Controller of Metro Stations who is authorised to fine them under the above said provisions," he said.

The figures of prosecution for other police stations are Qutab Minar - 207, Yamuna Depot - 195, Kashmere Gate - 134, Shastri Park - 103 and Rithala - 17.
