Controversy over drunk pilot falling off building
New Delhi: The facts behind the accidental death of 24-year-old Jonathan Joseph Fernandes are rather murky. Aditi Sengupta, a friend of Hitesh Mahashay whose birthday was being celebrated at his residence when tragedy struck, shared the details of the evening with MiD DAY. She said that around 40 persons who were around 21-25 years old were attending the party. All of them were totally drunk. Whisky and beer were being served to them.

"All the friends of Hitesh including Joseph were drunk. It was like a rave party though it was held at the house of Hitesh. They were all behaving like vagabonds. It was like that film Shaitan," said Aditi.

Mr Fernandes allegedly fell to his death from the seventh floor of the apartment in Rohini sector 9 area of outer Delhi late on Saturday night.

"The incident took place at Jai Apartment in the area. Police were reported about the incident at around 12:30 am. Cops rushed him to Saroj Hospital where he was declared brought dead on arrival by doctors," said Deputy Commissioner of police, outer Delhi, Bhola Singh Jaiswal. He said that the body was sent to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital for the post-mortem and his family members were informed by the police.

The deceased returned from the US after completing his pilot course. He was in Delhi to appear in the DGCA exam for getting Commercial Pilot's License (CPL) and was preparing for this. Joseph lived in Vikhroli area in Mumbai. His father is a well known businessman of the city. The deceased's family arrived in Delhi on Sunday morning. They had a heated argument with Hitesh's parents and police had to intervene in the matter to pacify them.
