Caught on cellphone: Policeman forces constable to do somersaults as penalty
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi Police to explain why a junior police officer was made to crawl on the ground and perform a series of somersaults by his senior. The court described the incident as "a brutal and inhuman act."

Lawyers who captured a video of the constable's alleged punishment on cellphone filed a complaint against the officer, additional DCP Seju P Kuruvilla. The additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, was allegedly furious that a constable at a Delhi court did not recognise him or salute him. Mr Kuruvilla was in civilian clothes. He then allegedly ordered the constable to perform somersaults as a punishment. Lawyers filmed the incident on their cellphones.

The High Court decided to initiate an inquiry and has asked the police to provide information on the chain of events. A criminal contempt notice has also been issued to Mr Kuruvilla.
