As Delhi voted today, Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said this could be a "wave election."
"We are looking at an election which could be a wave election, which could even be a landslide election," AAP leader Yogendra Yadav told NDTV.
Mr Yadav, who is a known psephologist, said "credible polls" indicated a "clear edge" for his party.
"There is a contest in the middle class areas, where every vote can matter, but outside the middle class areas, it is clearly one-sided," the AAP leader said.
The last election in December, 2013, ended in a fractured verdict. The BJP won the most seats but fell short of a majority and AAP was only three seats behind. The Congress, which placed last, is expected to finish a distant third in the race but the party insists it cannot be written off just yet.
The BJP and AAP are locked in what is seen as a close contest in this election. Both parties put up an intense campaign using rallies, roadshows, social media and ads. Delhi saw some 21,000 rallies.
Arvind Kejriwal's tweet this morning included a pun. "Everyone must please go out and vote after getting ready and offering prayers. Aapki zaroor jeet hogi (Aap/you will definitely win)," he tweeted.
After casting his vote later, Mr Kejriwal said, "The truth will prevail, people will win."
