Ahmednagar: A case has been registered in the national capital against a cab driver for allegedly molesting a 20-year-old US national in Delhi.

The case was registered in Tophkhana police station on the complaint of the girl and later transfered to Chitaranjan Park police station of New Delhi for further probe as the crime took place in that area, said Saurabh Tripathi, Superintendent of Police of Ahmednagar.

The girl registered a complaint against Devraj Chauvan (30), a taxi driver of a Delhi-based travel company, in Tophkhana police station of Ahmednagar on July 28.

"The driver has been booked under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code," the Ahmednagar SP said.

The girl came from the US to visit an Ahmednagar-based spiritual centre. She had hired a taxi of a travel company to visit various locations after arriving in New Delhi on July 24, while staying at a hotel in Chitaranjan Park area of New Delhi.

"The driver allegedly tried to physically abuse her. She could not speak about it due to fear then but after coming to Ahmednagar, she shared the incident with her colleagues," the SP said.

Later, she met the district police chief and narrated the incident after which the case was filed against the driver.
