Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley today blasted the
Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its attempts to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations, describing its conduct as "a challenge to constitutionalism.''
"Countries are run by the rule of law. No government can take a position that is anarchic in character. Anarchy is the rejection of the rule of law,'' Mr Jaitley told reporters as the AAP government escalated its confrontation with the Centre over the control of the city's police.
He also dwelled on the theme in his latest blog. "The AAP was born as a reaction against conventional politics. It promised alternative politics. It is now clear that their alternative politics is anarchy. This has been admitted by its leader,'' he wrote, commenting that a young political party that aspires to acquire a national profile was trying to disrupt the Republic Day parade.
The BJP leader also expressed his dismay over the spectre of a chief minister sitting on a dharna to press for his demands. "A rebel can do this, but the chief minister of a state should not take this route,'' Mr Jaitley observed. "There is on display a Federation of Anarchists on the streets of Delhi.''
He also blamed the Congress for bringing the situation to such a stage. "Congress just wanted to keep the BJP out of power in Delhi. AAP didn't have a mandate to rule the capital. It was the unpreparedness of the Congress to face the electorate that has resulted in this crisis,'' Mr Jaitley said.
