New Delhi: The AAP government in Delhi on Friday launched "Chief Minister's Super Talented Children Scholarship Scheme 2015-16".

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said: "Under this scheme, 400 meritorious students of science stream studying in Class XI and XII in Delhi government schools will be provided scholarship for professional coaching and guidance to enable admission to premier engineering and medical institutions of the country."

He said to select the bright students for the scholarship, the directorate of education would conduct screening test for class XI and XII science stream students studying in Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya and 54 Model Delhi Government Schools (being started as pilot scheme) within a week.

"Initially we are including only science stream students in the scheme but later we will also cover art stream students in the scheme," Mr Sisodia said.

"As many as 250 students of class XI and 150 students of class XII will be selected for premier coaching institutes for medical and engineering tests.

"The government has shortlisted three premier institutions - Vidyamandir, FIITJEE and Aakash as pilot project in this regard. The government will also provide DTC/Metro passes to the selected students," the Aam Aadmi Party leader said.

Mr Sisodia, who is also holding the education portfolio, said: "Most of our children from government schools do not get into professional courses including IITs, NITs, medical colleges, dental colleges etc. The reason is lack of resources and guidance during their school days."

The directorate of education runs 1,011 schools, where more than 15 lakh students are studying.
