535 Delhi Schools Should Refund Excess Fee Amounting To Rs. 300 Crore: Panel

The committee has identified 535 schools to be overcharging parents.

New Delhi: A total of 535 private schools in the national capital should refund extra fee they took from parents amounting to over Rs. 300 crore, a fee-hike panel has recommended.

The committee headed by Justice Anil Dev Singh has identified 535 schools to be overcharging parents on the pretext of implementing recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission while not doing it.

The panel was constituted last year following the Delhi High Court's order and has so far submitted ten interim reports to be implemented by the schools.

"The committee has in the 10 interim reports recommended refund of excess fee recovered with 9 per cent interest against 535 unaided schools and that amount goes over Rs. 300 crore," an official statement said.

"In the 10th interim report the panel has directed 24 schools to refund the fee including 18 DAV schools, Laxman Public School Hauz Khas, Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh,

The Pinnacle School Panchsheel Enclave, Greenway Modern Senior Secondary School, Cambridge School Sriniwaspuri and Bhartiya Vidya Bhawa's Mehta Vidyalaya," it added.

After submission of the eight interim reports, the Directorate of Education (DoE) had directed 472 schools to refund the amount within 15 days. However, till December last, only 43 schools had complied with the order.

The panel has so far examined the financial records of as many as of 1092 unaided schools.
