New Delhi: A five-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a peon inside a classroom in a school in north east Delhi's Shahdara on Saturday. The 40-year-old accused has been arrested.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered an investigation into the case."Shameful. Won't be tolerated. Police doing its job. Ordered magsterial enquiry. Police said the Vikas was under the influence of alcohol when he allegedly committed the crime. The peon, however, denied sexually assaulting the child. "There are cameras in the school premises, the girl should see and identify. I did not rape her," he told reporters. When asked whether he was drunk, he said, "I have a quarter everyday, so what?."

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the school and asked for a report within three days. DCW chief Swati Maliwal has also asked for a copy of the CCTV footage from the school.

The incident comes a day after a seven-year-old boy was killed allegedly by a bus conductor inside a toilet in Gurgaon's Ryan International School. The Class 2 child was murdered after the conductor allegedly tried to sexually assault the boy.

Hundreds of parents protested in the Gurgaon school after the 7-year-old boy was found murdered on Friday.

In the north east Delhi case, the peon had been working at Tagore Public School in Shahdara's Gandhinagar area for the last three years. Police said he had earlier worked as a security guard in the same school. The man allegedly took the girl inside an empty class room in the afternoon when he was walking in the corridors after handing over lunch boxes to teachers, the police said.

"Vikas lured the minor with a candy and took her inside the empty classroom where he sexually assaulted her," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad.

The officer said that after raping her, Vikas "put his hand the victim's mouth and threatened her of dire consequences".

"The matter was reported to the police after 3 p.m., when the minor complained of pain in her abdomen. Her mother noticed bleeding in private parts," the officer said.

"Today, it has happened with my child. Tomorrow, it could happen to another child. I want the school to be shut down," the child's mother told news agency ANI.

During a counselling session, the girl described the accused as a "man wearing a cap". Police arrested Vikas based on this and other descriptions given by the child. The child's father works as a tailor in a readymade garments factory.
