The Mansingh has been one of Indian cricket’s late risers. It hosted its only Test in 1987 — a game that saw Imran Khan dismiss Sunil Gavaskar first ball and Pakistan allege pitch tampering on Day 3.
It was a B-class venue before Lalit Modi took over the Rajasthan Cricket Association. The stadium received a major facelift then, and hosted one leg of the 2006 Champions Trophy. India’s ex-coach Greg Chappell operates his coaching school from here, and another Australian, the peerless Shane Warne, would lead the Jaipur side in the IPL. |
