Monsoon Watch:

Current meteorological analysis and numerical weather prediction models suggest subdued monsoon activity during next 2-3 days.

The northern limit of monsoon passed through Lat. 17.0 N/ Long. 60.0 E, Lat. 17.0 N/ Long. 70.0 E, Ratnagiri, Gadag, Anantapur, Ongole, Kalingapattinam, Paradip, Bankura and Gangtok on 7th June, 2009.

Main Features:

Heat wave conditions are prevailing over isolated pockets of northeast Madhya Pradesh, interior Orissa, coastal Andhra Pradesh. Current meteorological analysis suggests that they are likely to extend into some more parts of Madhya Pradesh and Orissa during next 48 hours. Heat wave conditions are also likely to develop over parts of Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh during next 2-3 days.

The highest maximum temperature of 45.2 C was recorded at Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh).

Convective clouds are seen over north Andaman Sea and parts of east central and south Bay of Bengal. Low/medium clouds are seen over southeast Arabian Sea, parts Peninsular India, northeastern States and east India.

Forecast:

Northwest India: Isolated rain/thundershowers over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand.

Isolated duststorm/thunderstorm over Rajasthan.

Mainly dry weather over the rest region.

East India: Rain/thundershowers at a few places over Sub- Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim.

Isolated rain/thundershowers over Gengetic west Bengal, Orissa and Jharkhand.

Mainly dry weather over the rest region.

Northeast India: Rain/thundershowers at many places over the region.

South India: Rain/thundershowers at many places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Rain/thundershowers at a few places over coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep during next 24 hours and many places thereafter.

Isolated rain/thundershowers over the rest region.

West India: Rain/thundershowers at a few places over Konkan & Goa and isolated over south Madhya Maharashtra.

Mainly dry weather over the rest region.

Central India: Isolated rain/thundershowers over east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha during next 48 hours and mainly dry weather thereafter.

Mainly dry weather over the rest region.

Increase in rainfall activity along west coast of India.
