Main weather observations (Recorded during past 24 hours):

The maximum temperatures are above normal by 3-6 C over west coast of India, by 2-4 C over extreme south peninsular India, northeastern States, parts of Gujarat and south coastal Andhra Pradesh. They are near normal over rest of the country.

The minimum temperatures are below normal by 4-6 C over east India and by 2-4 C over parts of northwest, central and adjoining Peninsular India. They are near normal over rest of the country.

Scattered rainfall activity has occurred over coastal Tamilnadu and south Andaman & Nicobar Islands and isolated over south Tamilnadu and Lakshadweep.

Synoptic features & Guidance (based on 1430 hrs IST Observations):

Northeasterly/easterly winds are prevailing over northeast, east and peninsular India.

The east-west trough from southeast Arabian sea to south Andaman sea through extreme south peninsular India and south Bay of Bengal in lower levels persists with embedded cyclonic circulation over south east Arabian Sea.

A western disturbance as an upper air system is likely to affect western Himalayan region during next 2 days.

Numerical weather prediction (NWP) Guidance:

Strengthening of easterly and northeasterly winds over Bay of Bengal and peninsular India.

Northwesterly winds are prevailing over northwest India and northeasterly/easterly over rest of the country at 850 hpa levels.

Scattered to fairly wide spread rainfall activity over Jammu & Kashmir and south Peninsular India.

Latest Satellite Guidance:

KALPANA 1 Cloud Imagery at 1430 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of south Andaman sea, southwest and southwest Bay of Bengal. Low /medium clouds are seen over parts of south peninsular India and western Himalayan region.

Major features of weather forecast (upto 1430 hours IST of 30th October, 2009):

Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity over south peninsular India during next 3-4 days.

Scattered rain/snow over Jammu & Kashmir during next 48 hours and isolated thereafter.

Dry weather conditions are likely over remaining parts of the country.

Minimum temperatures are likely to increase by 2-3 C over parts of northwest and Peninsular India during next 2-3 days.

Maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2-3 C over parts of northwest and Peninsular India during next 2-3 days.

Weather Outlook (upto 1430 hours IST of 2nd November, 2009):

Scattered rainfall activity over south peninsular India.

Mainly dry weather conditions over most parts of northwest, central and east India.
