Main weather observations (Recorded during past 24 hours):

Maximum temperatures are below normal by 5-9 C over east Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar and parts of north-east states, by 2-4 C over north Maharashtra, west Madhya Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab. They are above normal by 2-3 C over Orissa, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Kerala and near normal over rest of the country.

Synoptic features & Guidance (based on 1730 hrs IST Observations):

The trough from South Konkan coast to Chhattisgarh across south Madhya Pradesh at 0.9 Km above mean sea level persists.

A westerly trough in middle and upper tropospheric levels runs along 70 E.

Numerical weather prediction (NWP) Guidance:

An upper air trough extends from Lakshadweep area to Konkan coast in lower levels.

A fresh easterly wave is likely to affect south peninsular India from 20th.

Latest Satellite Guidance:

KALPANA 1 Cloud imagery at 1730 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of Vidarbha, Orissa, Jharkhand and south Andaman sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of northwest, central, east, northeast and peninsular India.

Major features of weather forecast (upto 1730 hours IST of 20th November, 2009):

Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall likely over central India during next 24 hours and east India during next 48 hours.

Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely over northeastern states during next 2-3 days.

Scattered rainfall likely over peninsula during next 3 days.

Rise in maximum temperatures by 3-4 C over plains of northwest India during next 3-4 days and over central India from tomorrow.

Moderate to dense fog conditions are likely to prevail over plains of northwest India during next 2-3 days.

Minimum temperatures are likely to fall by 3-6 C over northwest and central India during next 2-3 days.

Warning: (Valid for next 2 days):

Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Assam & Meghalaya during next 24 hours and Arunachal Pradesh during 48 hours.

Weather Outlook (upto 1730 hours IST of 22nd November, 2009):

Fairly widespread rainfall activity likely over south peninsular India.
