In remarks that may ruffle some feathers, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday said that he would not allow growth of "pub culture" in the state but made it clear that people taking law into their hands will be dealt with firmly.

He also said that he will discuss the issue of banning Sri Ram Sene, the outfit accused in the pub attack case, in the state cabinet.

"We won't allow this pub culture in Karnataka to grow. But on the other hand, those who take law in their hand will be dealt with very firmly," he told TV channels.

His remarks came even as Sene chief and an accused in the pub case Pramod Muthalik reminded the BJP that they formed the government in Karnataka on the Hindutva plank and asked the party not to sacrifice Hindu organisations for the sake of expediency.

Yeddyurappa claimed that Sene has no connection with BJP. "That's an individual organisation," he said.

Replying to a question on the issue of banning Sene, he said, "We will discuss it with the police officers and I will discuss it with the cabinet."

The police, he said, were also exploring the possibility of invoking the stringent Goonda Act against the pub case accused.

"Anyhow, we are not going to allow such incidents to happen again in the state. Nobody should take law into their hands and it is a very unfortunate incident. That is why I have taken immediate action and the situation is under control," he said.

As many of you have written already.., i worry about the future of Bangalore/Karnataka. IT/BT, Development on Infrastructure, education etc, is much faster in our neighboring states (AP/TN), they were trying to catch up with us at one point. And for the first time in the history, Bangalore is going to be downgraded from what it is. Ask yourselves, if this Govt. can do this in less than a year of being in power, the worst is yet to come!!! The civilized society needs to come together. If you want to give woman respect, let her do what is allowed and accepted to do. As someone noted, the city should now be called BAN-Galore. I cannot imagine what BJP will do if they are elected to power at the center. For your own good and the future of this country. DO NOT VOTE FOR BJP. They are all one and the same.

Attacking the Pub and girls is something I do not support. However I see nothing wrong in Yediyurappa saying pub culture will not be encouraged. This culture definitely was not part of India and was imported only in the recent 50 years or so. I feel nothing wrong in CM saying he is discouraging the pub culture. This is not taking law into ones own hands. He is elected CM and the assembly has power to enact law to ban Pub and Liquor.

What is this new ''Pub Culture''? Pubs have been a part of our culture for a long time. Bangalore has been proud to be called the pub capital of India since like... forever!! What these so called activists are looking for seems to be political mileage and media attention. If they really want to fight against social evils, they could well bring rapists, murderers, corrupt workers, and so on, to justice. Not by taking law into their own hands, but being a vigilante against these miscreants.

Mr CM should know that this is free India. As all Indians are expecting, there wont be any actions taken against such incidents. Whats wrong is some people to release their tensions go to a pub and hangout?
