The Maharashtra government has sent a preliminary report to the Home Ministry confirming that the man hailing from Uttar Pradesh was beaten to death on the train.

Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil has said his government is taking all possible steps to check the violence and will take stern action against the offenders.

Maharashtra government has announced a compensation of Rs two lakh for the family of Dharamdev Rai, a UP labourer beaten to death on Mumbai local train.

Twelve people have been detained for questioning in connection with the labourer's killing. Railway police have begun probe into the case. They have said that some of the assailants were speaking in Marathi. Maharashtra DGP has sent a report to the Centre on the case.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has asked the Centre for a probe into the killing of Rai. (Watch)

The post mortem report of the UP youth, who was beaten to death on Mumbai local train, shows he died of injuries to the liver.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil has spoken to Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Deputy Chief Minister on migrant's death.

"We are taking all possible steps to check the violence. Violence on train falls under Railway police and stern action is being taken against the offenders. It is very difficult to check stray incidents of violence. We are in touch with Centre on Maharashtra violence," said Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister, Maharashtra.

"We've registered a case of murder and are conducting an investigation. We take full responsibility of the safety of UP, Bihar migrants in Mumbai, " said RR Patil, Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra told NDTV.

Earlier, Rai, a young man from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh died after he was severely beaten on a suburban train in Badlapur in Maharashtra. He was on his way home to Gorakhpur for Diwali.

Three of his friends who were travelling with him were also beaten. They rushed Dharamdev to a hospital where he was declared dead.

"If the government here wants, please help us move out of Maharashtra today itself. We don't want to live here. How will you then earn a living? I will do something at home. Nobody dies of hunger in UP. I have passed Intermediate, couldn't get a job there, so came here for a private job. I earn Rs 5,000 a month and if I don't get a new job, I will do farming," said Brahmadev Rai, brother of Dharmadev Rai.

One of the victim's friends has claimed they were attacked by a group of Marathi speaking youth who abused them for taking up jobs in Mumbai.

"We were four of us. We took the train from Khopoli. Some people boarded the train on the way and started asking us questions, then they started abusing and beating us. They said why do you come to Mumbai for jobs? We kept saying we are going home for Diwali and we apologised but they paid little heed to it. My friend fell unconscious. As the train slowed down they jumped off. Police asked us to get off at Badlapur and we were brought to Dubey Hospital. But my friend was declared brought dead," said Shivkumar Verma, one of the victims who was beaten up.

On its part, the BJP has blamed the Congress for propping up Raj Thackeray whose campaign against north Indians have led to the lynching.

Yes, we all should support Raj Thackeray and take his initiative ahead by doing more... 1. We should teach our kids that if he is second in class, dont study harder.. just beat up the student coming first and throw him out of the school 2. Parliament should have only Delhiites as it is located in delhi 3. Prime-minister, president and all other leaders should only be from Delhi 4. No Hindi movie should be made in Mumbai. Only Marathi. 5. At every state border, buses, trains, flights should be stopped and staff changed to local men 6. All Maharashtrians working abroad or in other states should be sent back as they are SNATCHING employment from Locals 7. Lord Shiv, Ganesha and Parvati should not be worshiped in our state as they belong to north (Himalayas) 8. Visits to Taj Mahal should be restricted to people from UP only 9. Relief for farmers in Maharashtra should not come from centre because that is the money collected as Tax from whole of India, so why should it be given to someone in Maharashtra? 10. Lets support Kashmiri Militants because they are right in killing and injuring innocent people for the benefit of their state and community.. 11. Lets throw all MNCs out of Maharashtra, why should they earn from us? We will open our own Maharashtra Microsoft, MH Pepsi and MH Marutis of the world 12. Lets stop using cellphones, emails, TV, foreign Movies and dramas. Jam 13. We should be ready to die hungry or buy food at 10 times higher price but should not accept imports from other states 14. We should not allow any industry to be setup in Maharashtra because all machinery comes from outside 15. We should STOP using local trains... Trains are not manufactured by Marathi manoos and Railway Minister is a Bihari 16. Ensure that all our children are born, grow, live and die without ever stepping out of Maharasthra, then they will become true Marathis

instead of fighting among ourselves, the leaders who ignite the flames should be thrown in the fire by the people. all should gather in front of their house and see to it their house should be set on fire .how many people will the police kill.ultimetely they will have second thoughts about killing our own people, there by asking the leader to fend for himself.once incidence like this will awaken these leadres and no one will dare to ignite the flames to divide the country . a revolution is the need of the hour

No Government in current Indias set up can control this unless the military is employed and shhot at sight when there is violence. Be it Congress or BJP or its allies, all are opportunistic and want to be soft on many issues for vote bank politics. It is only ARMY which can control and kill those indulged in violence like killing mad street dogs! I might sound idiotic but this is the only way things will work. Soon Indians are going to witness ARMy taking over from civilians to control all nonsense Senas!

The Ongoing Tirade against the north Indians in Maharastra, not only illegal but also Inhuman. It has potential to tarter the social fabric of India. But there is also another face of coin. Why they are targeting only Bihar and Up people. Message is very simple and clear, these states especially Bihar failed to cater the Job needs of their own masses. Why Marathi’s not targeting people from karanataka or Tamilnadu, as they are well aware of the fact that if they target such states similar action will happen in Bangalore or in Chennai. In Bihar all political leaders joined their hands against the menace which is unprecedented. Why they can’t join their hands on the name of development. The Bihari Youth also shown unusual fervors in Patna, But this is the time for all youth of Bihar to ponder some issues. Why they are being neglected by People of other states? Why the people of other states looking at them with a jaundiced eyes? Even though they are able to outperform in Every exam such as (IIT or IAS). They performed excellently in their respective areas In this World being poor and weak is the Biggest Crime. If you are poor you have to bear the brunt of some Thackeray in every nook and corner. Why can’t they show some entrepreneur skill, Why can’t they build the good environment and infrastructure for investments in their own state. Why can’t they erect the industries in their own state? Why to wander Here and there for some trivial jobs. The nature bestowed most fertile land for them, there is a huge potential to develop Agro based industry. Just they need to show some commitment and will power to Utilize the resources. I would like to urge people of Bihar to take all such incidents with a positive frame of mind and make your state the most prosperous region in the world so that coming generations should not bear the brunt of any Thackeray.

Murder is a crime. It cannot be measured in technical terms and the murderer absolved by finding excuses for his behaviour. Whatever the weapon, the degree of aggression or the finesse with which it is committed, the end result is that some innocent citizen loses his life, which is murder. Wily politicians in their efforts to protect their vote banks may find excuses even to shield a murderer. Do they realise that by their tacit support, politicians only encourage such hate crimes, leading to fragnentation of society!

Election commission should ban the political parties from contesting election who are indulge into the divisive election orientated activities either directly or through their youth wings. If it is done, there will not too many political leaders using the divisive politics. The political parties involved only shedding crocodile tear for the Marathis. If they really are interested they could have done lot of things when they were in power in the state and centre for the Marathis.

What makes you think that the man was beaten up by marathis only? after all it wasnt a marathi on rampage with a gun in hand the other day!!Please check if this is not done by the same extremists who could manage to mislead a young boy to such a act in just 3 days of landing in Mumbai. We got to be careful people...its not raj or lalu single handedly responsible for this battle of regionalism. There are other miscreants using the current situation for personal benefits.

Friends what we all are keep on talking about Raj and how he is a devil. But dont you think the problem of immigration has turned into mammoth now? Imagine a city of capacity of 100 people where 140 peolpe (including Maharashtrains, Gujus, Punjabis, Biharis, South Indians collectively we will call them Mumbaikars) are living. Out of 140 people 20 are well educated and unemployed. Now if 2 job opportunities come up to whom it should be offered? To 20 unemployed Mumbaikars (let them belong to any base region) or should we call more people from other places for same jobs and overcrowded the place which is heavily saturated. We are already with lots of unemployed localities then why we should call people from outside and increase burden? Point here is, in Mumbai people don’t have enough place even to breath. Just travel by local train and give your comment. I will congratulate you if you can successfully/safely catch the train. Do you think the water, drainage, health, security systems are capable enough to take care of people already living in Mumbai? Nobody likes to leave family and work. Given option, people sacrifice on salary levels but chose to stay with family or in place where they belong to. But people from these underdeveloped states have no option left than moving to other cities for living. Beating them or making it a sensational political issue will not definitely solve the problem. This problem is not at micro level it’s at macro level. Leaders from underdeveloped states should focus on the development of their states rather than making it a issue for their vote bank.

Why dont the leaders of our country come on national television, satellite television and address the nation? why is the administration sleeping? where are we going? I am not only ashamed of being a Maharashtrian, but also ashamed of being an Indian. God bless our country.

Maharastra Government should take immediate action to catch hold the culprits who are responsible for killing Shri. Daramdeve Rai. It is a humiliation and challenging attitude for our national integration.

I am using this as an opportunity to write to RAJ. (the least media can do is to do some serious journalism and not sensationalism) Well done Raj. I thing you would be the most happiest person in Maharashtra now. You have achieved your and your mentors objective of poisoning the mind of humans and making them animals. I am sure you will do well in the coming elections. I am amazed that you have not only emulated your uncle but actually beaten him in the divide and rule game. I would here also want to say to pakistan, that we dont need your terrorism to destroy India, we have the likes of Raj / Mayawatis here to do that for you.

It is now really turning into a nightmare for outsiders in Maharashtra. Even educated people are supporting this. Just think, please think it once, if people living in other states also start same things to Marathis, if Bollywood decides to shift from Mumbai to Delhi, if IT industry starts withdrawing from Pune. Dont forget we are Indians. What did the poor labour rob from the state of Maharshtra? Jobs ? Friends lets think again before its late.

Marathis should be eliminated from other states. This is not era of shivaji. Check in the telephone directory, reservation charts and finish them.

These people have crossed all the limits. I pity on the spineless and shame-less State Govt. Please put a stop to all this dirty game and dont divide the country on the basis of regionalism.. Mr. Raj Takhre dont u believe in the theory of Survival of the fittest .. Ask ur Marathi Manoos to study and do some hard work to clear the exams.. So the most deserving Indian gets the job.. Otherwise declare Maharashtra as a seperate country because if the things goes in the same way, then i dont think any Marathi person would be allowed in any other state of India...

Raj Thackerey has the blood of innocents on his hands... after raising a controversy over a non-issue just to come into the political limelight... its only the person on the street, the poor people who get hurt, get affected in such non-essential agitations. Speaking from personal experience, I have worked in the north and south of India, and the people who I worked with, the neighbours, have always been kind and helpful... its only idiots and fearmongers like Raj Thakerey and his mentor, Bal Thakerey and the Shiv Sena who cultivate an atmosphere of and thrive on fear as its fear that gives them power... was shocked to see a photograph of Raj behind the wheel of a new jeep gifted by his party sec... innocent people have died due to his agitation, daily wage workers have lost their income... and this coward, this hypocrite is celebrating! But history has always made dictators pay for the blood of the innocents they have spilled... Raj, please remember this!

This is neither shocking or amusing, this is the truth. When did we stoop so low as to kill fellow countrymen just because they are from a different state? Forget going past the caste system, Indians are creating rivialry among their own. I am an Indian and my belief in Relgion was lost due to some of these reasons. When will the Government stop investing in trivial things like bollywood and politicians and actually educating people for the most important thing LIFE? We are really underdeveloped not in Technology but in HUMANITY.

This is really a pathetic act. A severe action must be taken by the government asap to stop such voilent acts. There are many maharashtrians in UP too what if they are treated this way. Not sure what can be gained by this. We are fighting amongst ourselves we can never become even close to a developed nation.

This is an obnoxious behavior. I hope god punishes Raj Thackrey for his deeds some day. If the country is divided in future on reigonal lines, Raj Thackrey will be the one to be blamed. Am ashamed to be a Maharashtrian.

This is the legacy being handed over and encouraged by Shiv Sena and MNS. To most of us I do not think a persons language, state, colour or creed matters. What matters is humaneness. All of us INDIANS need to raise our voice and act against such acts in all ways we can in our daily lives in small and big ways.

This is really a shamefull act been done by Marathis. Why dont they realise if the same thing is done for them in other states. They should first be an Indain rather than Marathi. Why are these people doing like this there is something called Humanism which this guy Raj Thackery has forgotten. What he is doing will be never forgiven by God. Oneday he will have to pay for his misdeeds.
