Delhi Metro bridge collapses, 1 dead

A part of the flyover under construction for the Delhi Metro collapsed in the eastern part of the capital on Sunday, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

The accident happened at Vikas marg near Shakarpur in the early hours of the day, when a launcher, which is used to lift pillars, collapsed.

As a result, a pillar fell on a Blueline bus and some other vehicles.

The flyover was being constructed for Noida-Indraprastha line, which was to be operational from 2009.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corp has ordered an inquiry and chief minister Shiela Dikshit has announced Rs five lakh ex-gratia for the dead.

The injured included passersby and workers involved in the construction work. All injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, they said.

Some other vehicles were also crushed under the rubble, police said, adding the traffic at the accident site has been diverted.

Hold on please. Do no draw any conclusion on quality of DMRC construction so soon. NO BRIDGE has falled here. It was the machine being used to lift pillars which has collapsed. It was an accident and NOT due to bad constrcution quality.

This incident had possed a question mark in front of the lakhs of people commuting by Delhi Metro everyday, which has till date been a mark of responsibility, faith and world class engineering

The questions being asked again and again the commitment, reliability and in time completion. Hyderabad had seen it road bridge at heart of the city collapsing now it is in the national capital... who do u held responsible??? Man the latest is METRO RAILWAY LINE BRIDGE. Wow... what when train runs on it... question to be raised on this kind of constructions.

Its not Delhi Metro bridge only collapses,but the faith,the relaibility and dedication shown by DMRC in last 10 years got collapsed.

This is the third incident of bridge collapse. Some corrective measure need to be taken in order to check the incidents not to happen in future. This is really sad, and it was a bad morning.
