Curfew in entire Jammu has been lifted about an hour ago.

Earlier, people defied curfew on Sunday in Jammu and protesters came out in large numbers in the old Jammu city.

The protestors marched to the MAM stadium, the venue for the rally organised by the Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti.

The police used water cannons and tear shelling to disperse the protestors, who pelted stones at the police.

The gathering was seen as a victory rally after the breakthrough in the talks between the panel appointed by the Governor and the Samiti on Saturday night.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said that the unilateral decision on land use for Amarnath Yatra is a move to disrespect the popular sentiments in Kashmir.

She said any decision on this sensitive matter should have been taken only with consensus and after consultation with the Kashmir Coordination Committee and civil society.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader L K Advani has said that he is pleased with peace formula in Jammu.

On Saturday night, finally, there was a breakthrough in the Amarnath land controversy.

For the people of Jammu, the last two months have been turbulent, marked by violence and curfew. But as news of the deadlock ending trickled down to the people, there were celebrations in many parts early in on Sunday morning.

The Sri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti suspended its nearly two-month-long agitation over the Amarnath land row.

This comes after four rounds of talks between the government and the Samiti.

According to the compromise formula, the government has allowed the shrine board exclusive use of the Amarnath land for three months during the Yatra.

The government has also said it will review demands to withdraw cases against protestors. The Amarnath shrine board will be reconstituted and financial losses suffered by transporters and the government will compensate traders.

Leela Karan Sharma, convener of the SASS has declared that the core issue had been resolved and the agitation had been suspended.

Indian government had to wait for two months, and several deaths to occur first, not to mention the loss to commerce. When will India get it right if ever?

the decision of Governor led goverment via his appointed committee is a unilateral decision and will create schism in the already trobule torn state. the govt of india as well as kashmir has ignored the sentiments of people of kashmir. punch and others and have bowed before some people who in turn want to create cummunal tension in the state. the people of kashmir since years have served the pilligrems of Amernath cave with full dedication but it seems that the goverment wants to create problems instead of solving them.
