Christian groups didn't kill VHP leader: Sources

Government sources tell NDTV that their assessment is that Christian groups did not kill VHP leader Swami Lakshmanand Saraswati.

In an Orissa daily, Maoist leader Azad has claimed responsibility for killing of the VHP leader.

As Kandamal continues to simmer with sporadic incidents of violence, 20 companies of CRPF have already reached the area.

Additional forces are on standby. There has already been a police reshuffle in the conflict-torn district and the Orissa Assembly is expected to take up a no-confidence motion by the Congress against the Navin Patnaik government's handling of the situation.

Meanwhile, Union Minster Kabil Sibal said the government would like to order a CBI inquiry into the communal violence.
