Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday attempted to broker peace in a state that has been sharply divided by politics of hate over the Amarnath land row.

The Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti, which is spearheading the 37-day-old agitation in Jammu, has decided to continue the protests even after the Prime Minister's all-party meeting on Wednesday.

The government has decided to hold direct talks with the protesters on the matter.

The Samiti has, however, said it is open to a dialogue provided the government has something concrete to offer. It is however yet to receive a formal invite for talks.

According to sources, the Prime Minister himself may talk to the agitators to defuse the situation. An all -party delegation might visit Jammu as well as Kashmir valley to assess the situation.

Governor N N Vohra has appointed a four-member team to hold talks with the Sangharsh Samiti. The committee will comprise of former Chief Secretary of the state S S Bollowria, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Amitabh Mattoo, retired judge of J&K High Court Justice G D Sharma and Principal Secretary to the Governor B B Vyas.

The government made it clear at the all party meeting that there is no question of removing the Governor, a demand that the BJP had raised in the meeting.

A peace rally was taken out in Jammu on Thursday. Hundreds marched on the streets demanding that the Amarnath land at Baltal be returned to the Shrine board. The rally went off peacefully.

Curfew was relaxed this morning for four hours and protesters wasted no time to take out the rally during that time.

Meanwhile, the CRPF has found and defused 80 kgs of Improvised Explosive Device or IED near Hyderpura on the Airport Road. The bomb was designed to detonate with a mobile.

There was an All Party meeting on 6th of August in which the main party i.e. Sangarsh Samiti of Jammu which is conglomeration of various local associations was not invited ..!!!! And Sangarsh Samiti has also got backing from some local Muslim groups from Jammu. The issue now is not only Amarnath land but the discrimination faced by the people of Jammu region since about 6o yrs. The Centre is not giving and has never given the needed response which is the reason the stirr has taken such turn. Its the common man which is on roads. It is more a regional problem rather than religious issue. Hope it will be over soon..
