2009: Bollywood's balance sheet
In the corruption case against judges involved in the provident fund scam, the Supreme Court is set to examine the issue on July 14, whether to order a judicial probe or not.

The issue will be now heard by the Chief Justice of India.

The allegation is that an official siphoned Rs 23 crore from the employees' provident fund. The scam allegedly involved 26 judges including sitting High Court Judges and a Supreme Court Judge.

And now these judges will be questioned by the police but through a questionnaire, which the Chief Justice of India has asked for.

In fact, the court's letter to the police does not rule out interrogation.

The Chief Justice of India has also said that from next week he will hear the petitioner, an NGO, and then decide whether his colleagues should be investigated.

"Chief Justice of India cannot play policeman and the magistrate. There is something that requires to be interrogated. Criminal law probe has to be done and not a surreptious judicial probe," said Rajeev Dhavan, Constitution Expert.

NDTV had exposed this scam last month and also reported that the UP Police was waiting for the Supreme Court's nod to question the Judges.

Thanks to immunity laws, judges cannot be investigated by police, which is why Monday's decision by the Chief Justice is a perhaps landmark step in judging the judges.
