The BEST management has given a day's extension to striking employees, after having terminated the jobs of nearly 30,000 workers who joined a stop-work call.

The management said employees who return to work on Friday can keep their jobs.

However, the unions seem in no mood to back down.

"When there is no employer-employee relationship then where is the question of negotiations?" asked Sharad Rao, BEST Union Leader.

Tough situation

BEST employees went on a 72-hour strike on Wednesday night, asking the state to clear their demand for dearness allowance.

The strike has left about 45 lakh commuters in the lurch, who are not sympathetic with the union.

"The absence of buses has meant we have to take taxis. They are expensive and not everyone can afford them," a local resident said.

Union leader Sharad Rao met Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil late in the day on Thursday, but state refused to step in and ease negotiations.

As the talks continue to move at a snail's pace, Mumbai's commuters will have to sweat it out.

Due to the BEST strikes we have suffered a lot. There was no prior information in Newspaper or News all were busy in covering Abhishek & Aishwarya wedding stories.I think you should ask your rights without affecting others work. Like in China if people want to protest they put only black batches. Please take necessary action three days is too long.
