A seven-year-old girl in Puducherry is vested with an uncanny ability to reel of names of allopathic medicines for treating various diseases without ever referring to any books or prescriptions.
Bhagyashree, a second standard girl in a private school in Puducherry, kept a distinguished audience enthralled at a function in Puducherry when when doctors asked her the names of medicines to treat diseases like filariasis, oncology, blood pressure, diabetes and various other ailments.
PWD Minister M O H F Shahjahan, Director of health and family welfare Dr Dilip Kumar Baliga,Medical Superintendent of Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and PG Institute and doctors of government and private hospitals were present.
So impressed was the minister that he immediately gave her a cash prize of Rs 5000, describing her as a `prodigy` and promised to donate either a computer or a laptop to her. The cash is to help her purchase books on medicines to further augment her skills.
Bhagyashree, who can name medicines for around 1000 ailments, told reporters she wanted to specialise in oncology.
