Toys go global: 36,000 toys on display in Tokyo
Press Trust of India
Thursday, June,19 2008 (Tokyo):

An international toy show opened in Tokyo on Thursday, displaying about 36,000 toys from around the world.

A total of 134 companies are taking part in the International Tokyo Toy Show 2008,which is being held for four days.

The show earmarks a special space for toys that won awards by the Japan Toy Association established in 2008, the organisers said.

Among such award-winning toys are Eye Clops, a digital microscope that projects magnified images on a television screen and Mugen Puchipuchi, a toy that enables one to feel the joy of bubble-wrap popping.

Japan's toy market expanded in the year 2007 for the first time in four years after shrinking amid falling birthrates.

Analysts attribute the growth to diversified marketing methods such as on-line shopping and the launch of toys that can appeal to adults.

The companies have been also focusing on reviving old-time toys such as baseball boards and miniature cars.

The organisers expect the show to draw 120,000 visitors during the four-day period.
