A four-year-old Labrador Kutty from Thane near Mumbai has bagged top honours for being the world's most "socially helpful dog".
The honours for the Top Dog was courtesy an online poll conducted by the Washington-based Delta Society.
According to Shyamsri Bhosale Kutty's owner and principal of Jidd Special School a school for mentally challenged the canine is an animal angel with a healing touch.
Shyamsri said, "Kutty's nose for healing has worked wonders for these children drawing them out of their silent and confused worlds children. She has taught the art of communication.
Siddhesh a student said, "I come to school for her."
With an extraordinary sense for individual needs, Kutty has also worked with the families and victims of Mumbai's 7/11 serial train blasts.
Kutty is also part of therapy group in Pune where canines are groomed to help cancer patients and others with special needs to cope with trauma and tragedy.
Minal Lonkar-Kavishwar the trainer said, "These dogs are trained to be therapy dogs, their job is emotionally stressful. They know how to respond to certain sights and sounds."
It's loads of hard work for this lovable canine, who beat 10,000 competitors to win the poll. But for Kutty, it's not about accolades, it's all about her sixth sense.
