Sohrabuddin killing: Timeline

Nov 21, 2005: Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bibi were travelling from Hyderabad to Sangli by bus. Police intercepted the bus at 1.30 am, 2 km ahead of Tandola village in Maharashtra.

Nov 22, 2005: A day later, Sohrabuddin was said to have been killed in a police encounter. Police claimed Shaikh was planning to assassinate Modi.

Jan 14, 2006:Rubabuddin, brother of Sohrabuddin, filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court alleging that his brother was killed in a fake encounter and that Kausar Bibi, had gone missing since then.

Jan 22, 2006: The SC asked the Gujarat DGP for an inquiry into the case. The investigation was handed over to the CID (Crime).

Jan 25, 2007: Interim investigation report by the CID, submitted in December 2006, suggested discrepancy in the ATS encounter theory.

March 23 2007: Gujarat admited to the SC that its officials were guilty of the murder of Sohrabuddin.

April 27, 2007: The government of Gujarat admitted in the Supreme Court that Sohrabuddin’s missing wife may have been killed.

April 30, 2007: Gujarat government admitted to the SC that Kausar Bi was also killed and her body burnt.

May 3, 2007: Jaipur link emerged in fake encounter case.

May 5, 2007: Rajasthan police sources claimed that Gujarat ATS DIG D G Vanzara had been paid off by the builders of Ahmedabad to eliminate the Sohrabuddin gang.

May 24, 2007: Geeta Johri, CID officer heading the investigations into the case, filed affidavit.

July 7, 2007: The 13 policemen arrested in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case chargesheeted.

Dec 5, 2007: Narendra Modi reportedly admitted to the Sohrabuddin killing.

The case is still in the Supreme Court.
