Main weather observations (Recorded during past 24 hours):

Maximum temperatures are below normal by 4-5 C over parts of central India, by 2-3 C over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and north Maharashtra. They are above normal by 2-3 C over parts of south peninsular India and near normal over rest of the country.

Chief amounts of rainfall (= 1 cm) recorded between 0830 to 1730 hours IST of today are: Pamban and Ongle-3 each, Visakhapatnam and Mayabandar-2 each, Salem, Bapatla and Carnicobar-1 each.

Synoptic features & Guidance (based on 1730 hrs IST Observations):

The Trough from south Interior Karnataka to Gangetic West Bengal in lower levels persists.

Northwesterly/ westerly winds are prevailing over Indo-Gangetic plains.

Numerical weather prediction (NWP) Guidance:

Strong northwesterly/westerly winds continue to prevail over Indo-Gangetic Plains in lower levels.

A fresh easterly wave is likely to affect south peninsular India from tomorrow onwards.

Latest Satellite Guidance:

KALPANA 1 Cloud imagery at 1730 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of south Bay of Bengal and Karnataka. Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, peninsular and northeast India.

Major features of weather forecast (upto 1730 hours IST of 22nd November, 2009):

Scattered rainfall activity is likely over northeastern states during next 24 hours and isolated thereafter.

Scattered rainfall activity is likely over south peninsular India during next 24 hours and fairly widespread thereafter.

Minimum temperatures are likely to fall further by 1-2 C over northwest India and by 2-4 C over central and adjoining east India during next 2-3 days.

Weather Outlook (upto 1730 hours IST of 24th November, 2009):

Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely to continue over extreme south peninsular India.

A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region.
