Chief minister Sheila Dikshit's recommendation to the Lt-Governor that Jessica Lall's killer Manu Sharma, be granted parole has come under fire from the legal community and the family of Jessica Lall.
Sharma applied for parole on the grounds that he needs to participate in a ceremony for his grandmother's first death anniversary. He also said that he needs to attend to his business, which employs thousands of people. Sharma also claims that his mother is ill.
The parole has become an issue amidst reports that Manu Sharma was spotted at Samrat Hotel's elite nightclub, LAP. And his mother addressed a press conference on Saturday to promote a cricket match she helped organise.
Does 'political parole' undermine the legal system? Join the debate on Verdict(IST).
