Shows    »    India's Indira
NDTV
It was so sudden, a stunned nation would not believe it for hours after. But India had to come to terms with the fact that on the morning of October 31, 1984, Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi had been felled by the bullets of those she chose to protect her life.

It has been 25 years since, but a leader to match the stature of India’s Indira is yet to come. A woman who braved the odds when the world still belonged to men. A global icon. A leader looked up to, feared, loved. Equally, a politician with more detractors than any of her ilk.

We remember Indira and pay homage to the iron lady who continues to inspire generations.

Famous Words

Even if I died in the service of the nation, I would be proud of it. Every drop of my blood will contribute to the growth of this nation and to make it strong and dynamic.

October 30, 1984

My grandfather once told me that there were two kinds of people: those who do the work and those who take the credit. He told me to try to be in the first group; there was much less competition.

The power to question is the basis of all human progress.

Martyrdom does not end something, it only a beginning.

Anger is never without an argument, but seldom with a good one.

No doubt an iron lady but she had scant respect for the opposition or those who opposed her. Her mistakes were far outnumbered her acdhievements; emergency rule the foremost which lead to her legacy of sychophants that still plagues the congress, who never portay anybody escept the "Gandhi" name even after the curse that has befallen the family with some many unnatural deaths.

It was her daring to nationalise indian banks which saved us from this recession.

Indira Gandhi had both good and bad traits, like any other human being. She realised that India prospers only under a strong Centre but ultimately failed because she closed doors to the problems of the common man and leant her ears only to those in her coterie.Wish she did not have this weakness else her strong leadership wo.uld have left a big imprint on Indian history

Indira Priyadarshini ,was like Mother India , was a very deeply passionate ,commited ,emotional, yet ,an woman with iron hand ,when it comes to Ruling India . Possibly the best priminister India could have ever had,,if India has one more politician like her hidden anywhere not known the country has a bright future.
India Gandhi , was the greatest thing that happend to India.ANY PRAISE OR TRIBUTES PAID TO HER HAS NO MEANING IF ONE DOES NOT FOLLOW HER FOOT STEPS AND HAVE THE SAME PASSION SHE HAD FOR THE POOR AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS COUNTRY

Indira Gandhi Was one of India's best prime minister. So introduced the Public sector Banks in our country, but her negative is that she passed the indian army into the Golden Temple. This incident lead to her death also.
