It's been 100 days since the UPA govt came to power. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had set a 100-day agenda for governance and the question we're debating this week is - Has the UPA failed to deliver on its promises?
While initial steps have been taken to ensure education for all below 14, the social sector scheme still remains an unfinished agenda. The women's reservation bill is yet to be passed by the Parliament, even though the govt has introduced 50 per cent reservation for women in the Panchayat.
The Food Security Act is still a non-starter. The government has also failed to effectively tackle the drought situation and the prices of essential commodities continue to rise. On the diplomatic front, the govt has failed to persuade Pakistan to act against Hafiz Saeed. Further, the Indo-Pak joint statement at Sharm-El-Sheikh is viewed by many as a diplomatic blunder.
