 A Page 3 fixture and part of Mumbai's glam gang, Sheetal Mafatlal, was sent to judicial custody after she was caught carrying undeclared jewellery worth Rs 53 lakh into the country.
The Airport Intelligence Unit acting on a tip-off detained her for allegedly possessing the undeclared valuables. Mafatlal had reportedly declared they were worth only Rs 20 lakh. After spending a night in jail, she was granted bail on a bond of Rs 5 lakh and a deposit of Rs 18 lakh as Customs duty.
This is not the first time that a celebrity has been found evading duty, but most have been let off after penalty. Sheetal’s arrest thus has become a talking point amongst the city's social circles.
