passenger amenities like food supplied in the trains are still of very poor quality.i had recently been on a tour down south via kanyakumari express -6381/6382. there is no standardisation of prices for the same food items in up and down trains. the quality is diplorable. complaint books were not available in the pantry car. even the ticket checker didnot cooperate to help us. we were travelling in AC 2 TIER(HIGHEST CLASS IN THE TRAIN-6381/6382).WE WERE REFUSED EVEN THE COMPLAINT/SUGGESTION BOOK

We dont have to go to Western countries, just look at china and decide the quality and technology our trains have. 26hours,36 hours of train journey is no where possible except in our so called DEVELOPING INDIA. Its disappointing to see that no initiatives are taken on TGVs.

Many people dont realise that railways has increased it profits by allocating more quota of tickets under TATKAL scheme which is unfair.Issues like quality of food served, age old fans, age old berths and sanitation still remain unanswered. Why cant we have better quality and faster trains for such a ticket price.?

Lalu is a successful politician and as an Indian leader , who does not bother for people after a win, the railways also do not bother for the passenger. In my recent travel I could get berths on tatkal only. I had to dishout more. No soap in toilets. No hand towel . Inferior quality food and no one to listen and attend you. Railways now represent the true picture of Indian keader tantra.

Lalu is just juggling with figures. All this would be known as soon as he leaves office. There is no direction in the railway budget.

It is a mixed bag. Lalu has accomplished a turnaround for the Railways. There is a visible improvement in the finances as well a determined effort to enlarge the network, on the flip side the passenger amenities and the safety track record is worrisome.

those who are not travelling by rail are asked to rate indian railways. one has to travel for 24 hours contineously in rail (not in AC class) to comment on safety, security and hyegenic conditions in rail compartments.
major rail accident on the day lalu presenting rail budget is not to be taken lightly. more to happen in future because of poor track maint and corruption.
pandora box will only open in the absence of lalu I a m sure.

What has been the contribution of the Railway Minister in the success story of the railways.
Is there any particular scheme or a business model that he had suggested/implemented which brought about this turn around.
Success of the Indian Railways is not because of the Minister rather he is only basking in the glory since he is the Minister incharge of this department.

There is nothing wrong if the budget is populist - after all the budget is for the public and if the public is happy with it - that is good. Only point that needs to be looked into along with it being populist is that it has a long term vision and is not populist at the cost of long term objective of the Indian Railways as a whole.
