It was the Sri Lankan government's biggest triumph in its current offensive - Daya Master, the Tigers' media spokesperson and George, an interpreter for top leader Thamilselvan have surrendered with their families. To the world, they were the voice of the LTTE. The defeat is all but complete, except the capture of LTTE's supremo Prabhakaran. The government believes that Prabhakaran is still in hiding in the area and cannot escape.
The politicians in Tamil Nadu are speaking in different voices on the Lankan offensive on the LTTE. While Vaiko threatened of a bloodbath if Prabhakaran is killed, Karunanidhi called the LTTE chief his friend, whereas Jayalalithaa opted to keep her stand on the issue undisclosed. And so - how will the end of the LTTE affect Tamil Nadu?

There would be no impact from the fall of LTTE or the killing of Prabhakaran. The political parties are shedding crocodile tears over the issue.
The intention is to divert the attention from various other issues - power crisis, law & order situation, inflation, infrastructure.
As the ruling pary (ies) know very clearly that they are lacking on this, they are diverting the public attention.

Prabhakaran has been equated to Bhagat Singh and other freedom fighters in India. The panelists are forgetting that no Freedom fighter in India assassinated another freedom fighter. Prabhakaran wiped out all the Tamil Ealem groups like EPRLF and TELO to become the supreme commander. That is not what freedom fighters do. It is a disgrace to equate him to our Freedom fighters.

well, election is the only time where the Proud citizens of India can have a say on the local and national issues. For the people in Tamil Nadu, they always treat the Sri Lankan tamils as part of their blood though they were part of Sri Lanka. Congress and DMK chose to manipulate and ignore this for their own sake, but they are reversing and playing a different tune now.. you will see much more show to come from Cong and DMK on this till May 13th. ADMK and other parties are no exception to this truth.
I would say it's a blunder to ignore the sentiments of people in Tamil Nadu, at the same time it does not mean that they all support LTTE. Looking at what is happening on the ground in Sri Lanka, the more LTTE can withhold they are gathering more sympathy from Tamil nadu and they would chose to support LTTE using the election vote.

Everyone knows that the LTTE issue has been draging so long and progress of Sri lanka has been hampered. Now due to elections each party has taken it as a trump card to woo and deceive the voters. My simple question is since Prabhakaran keeps saying he is saviour of tamils, when so many tamils are dyeing why not he surrender and save the tamils. This will end the LTTE issue. He wants to live and enjoy at the cost of so many tamils.

Where ever the Tamil People go they create problem. They fail to integrate themselves with the local society. Can the Malaysian Tamil issue election in India? No. It is not. Emotional bonding and moral support is different and local issues are different. The Srilankan issue is blown out of proportion by politicians here. It is not going to affect our elections.

To come to down to earth facts. All the Political parties facing the election in Tamilnadu, are using the Sri Lanka as their platform to win votes. Not one Party have in their campaign; have promised the people of any improvement of the State, which will benefit the lives of the Tamilians in Tamilnadu. Is there any difference in what is happening in Jammu & Kashmir. The aim of the LTTE & JKLF are the same.Jayalalitha & Karunanidhi are only having their personal vendetta at the expense of the people of Tamilnadu. It is high time the Election Commission took a view to abolish the supply of free TVs, Gas connections and the like. 99% percent of the free TVs and Gas connections are not with the people who have received them. All have been sold. The only article which should be subsatised and given is rice & kerosene and to only the lower income groups.Free electricity to farmers, should be given only to the poor farmers and subsatised electricity can be given to the rich farmers; as an initiative to boost agriculture.Last not the least it is high time the caste system is abolished. It is only at the time of elections, admissions to institutions and the kind the caste platform arises.

It's election time and political posturing in Tamil Nadu is all but expected on this issue. In normal circumstances the elimination of LTTE or Prabhakaran may not have had any significant impact.Things shall settle down sooner than later.

Like the forest brigand Veerappan, Velupillai Prabakaran would also fade from the memories of TN politicians. Many vernacular media and petty politicians eulogised Veerappan. I don't see any difference between Veerappan and Prabakaran and the politicians who have supported Veerappan and now supporting Prabakaran.

This indeed is disturbing.
By burning our house down, we will not be able to provide light to our neighbour.
Better sense has to prevail.
Support for a terrorist outfit. This is the precisely the problem. ”One's terrorist is other’s freedom fighter.”
Sympathy for the Tamil civil population in Srilanka, even support and aid would be a welcome step.
Inflaming passions, inciting violence in our own Country, is not going to resolve the problem in another country.
Not withstanding this is election time, gimmickry and emotive issues are ruling the roost.
We do not need innocent lives lost in India, on account of an issue where the human cost has already breached unwarranted and unacceptable levels.
