Just over nine hours are left for India to make history. And scientists are busy with last minutes checks as they get ready to launch India's first ever unmanned moon mission, Chandrayaan-1, at 6:21 am on Wednesday. The Indian moon rocket stands drenched in the pouring rain. But the Indian scientists say there is no need to be worried about the rocket as it is rain proof. The 49-hour countdown continues unabated and the last minute checks being done on the rocket, and it is being fueled. In the mission control room at the launch pad, the scientists are monitoring all systems of the rocket while also keeping a close watch on the weather as dark clouds gather over Sriharikota. Also flocking Sriharikota are the foreign partners whose instruments are being flown on Chandrayaan-1, who are anxious to see a successful liftoff."We are both elated and anxious; we have left everything to our Indian colleagues. We are not worried by rain but by thunderstorms. Hope all goes well," said Dr Urs Mall, Lunar Scientist, Max Planck Institute, Germany.ISRO has said that all they need is a clear window of a few hours free of thunderstorms and lighting for them to launch India's maiden mission to the moon that would map its resources like never before. The countdown has been progressing steadily and there is heavy security cover to ensure nothing untoward happens. But even this security can't stop one intruder -- the rain which has been coming down in loads at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
