Frustrated over party's drubbing in the Delhi Assembly polls, a section in the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now baying for its chief Harshvardhan's blood, insisting that party must put its house in order before the Lok Sabha elections.

Sources said that anti- Harshvardhan group has started exerting pressure on the national leadership to remove the Delhi BJP chief immediately saying that a strong message has to be sent to non-performing leaders to restore the morale of the grassroot workers.

"There is very little time left for a new president to understand and take control of the situation," a leader who did not want to be named said, adding that former Union minister Vijay Goel could help "recharge" the party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Asked whether he was interested in taking up the responsibility of state leadership, Goel said he would follow the instructions of the party.

However, Harshvardhan says he alone should not be blamed for the electoral debacle as "it is a collective responsibility".

"There is no question of quitting. As far as party's poor show is concerned, it is a collective responsibility and a single individual cannot be held responsible for the failure," Harshvardhan said.

He said party would go into the reasons behind its poor performance once Rajinder Nagar constituency elections are over.

"We will sit together and decide about the future course of action," said Harshvardhan whose tenure as Delhi BJP chief was extended early in 2008 after party president Rajnath Singh asked him to continue till the Assembly elections.
