The objective of the Awards is to salute men and women who fuel India's journey to the forefront of the World Economy.
Stage 1: Finalization of verticals :
Along with the NDTV Profit team, the Business process advisors decided on the final list of award verticals. The verticals for BLA awards 2009 were as follows:
• Automobile (Two wheeler and Four Wheeler)
• Aviation
• Banking (Public and Private)
• Building and Construction - Infrastructure
• Consumer Durables (White Goods)
• FMCG (Foods & Personal Healthcare)
• Insurance (Life and Non Life)
• Information Technology (Software & Hardware)
• Logistics
• Mutual Funds
• Oil & Gas (Public & Private)
• Pharmaceuticals
• Retail
• Telecom
The basis of deciding the verticals was to give sufficient representation of high growth industries forming a significant part of India's GDP.
Stage 2: Collation of Nomination Universe :
Process advisors collated the list of top companies in each award vertical based on extensive research and guidance from their internal sectoral experts. The list represented top players in respective industries. A total of around 800 companies were screened at this stage. The basic information collated for these companies at this stage was a mix of few financial and non financial parameters.
Stage 3: Filter Nominees – rank short listed entities :
The information collated above is sorted and filtered using predefined parameters (both financial & non-financial) and on an average 10 top companies were short listed in each award category (called “Short listed Entities or SLE”).
Stage 4: Questionnaire Rollout :
Questionnaires were customized based on the focus and objective of the award for the year 2009. Therefore questions around recession and mitigation steps, corporate social responsibility, marketing spent and initiatives etc. were added to existing questionnaires for last year. Custom made questionnaires were rolled out to the short listed nominees selected in Stage 3 under the various verticals to validate & get additional information
Stage 5: Nomination Process Review & Jury Meeting Preparation :
The information shall again be collated from the questionnaires and extensive research and new set of filtering criteria is used to identify top 5 – 6 companies (called “Nominees”) in each vertical. The criteria used at this level are specific to the performance of the industry in last one year vis-à-vis individual performance. Information around such nominees shall be collated and a summarized/comparable pack will be prepared for evaluation by the jury.
Stage 6: Evaluation by Jury :
This is the Final stage wherein a renowned jury debated over the nominees companies and identified the winners.
