Posted by: tareMessage: we should be really proud of Mr Ratan TATA who has shown exemplary resolve in breaking the tag of car as a luxury item. In a country like India we don't have even mediocre public transport system. The influx of affordable car can certainly help the cause of the middle class. Our already cramped roads will face the deluge of these cars. Rather than sounding apprehensive i guess this move can create a chain reaction of making world class roads across the country. The growth of Indian automobile industry can propel a similar growth like the developments of freeways in America which were analogous to the growth of American auto industry. Apart from that the government should try to make a reliable public transport else the only comforting ride available to the public will be engineering marvel like Nano. Posted by: sushovan1 |

Message: Will the big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkota be able to cope with the increase in traffic, jams and traffic road signs and rules. I donot think so, with the increase in traffic and jams people will surely start breaking the rules, more accidents, more deaths on the roads, road rages, noise pollusion, air pollution, increase in the demand for the fuel, pushing the prices up even more, the shortage will increase fuel prices and with that rise in everyday usable things. There is no end to these miseries, this will encourage others to drop their prices and more traffic on the road which already is horrendus. Posted by: RAJAYE_HIND |
Message: Will the currently useless, corrupt and sleepy government wake up and start constructing a continuous road network - highways, city roads, flyovers, and village roads to handle the traffic for the next 50-100 years?. The government will have money if corruption stops. This way cars like TATA can serve the common man immensely. TATA knows there is not a suitable road network to handle car population- and hence have limited the car production to 5 lakh cars in 4 years- that is a responsible position taken by the TATAS.

The car is a revolution economically. Well for people like you who refuse to accept any form of economics, people like you who welcome only one thing - communism, people who want everything done magically without wanting to give an iota of thought to where the money for your quixotic ideas wherein a cheap car by even the soviet union's economic standards is elitist nonsense but who cannot give any alternative for India's development and for improvement of quality of life of the common man, for people like you who want a welfare failed state where everything comes for free, for people like you who want to destroy India with your directionless but argumentative rhetoric, for people like you who dont understand that this is an opportunity for millions who want a car but could not afford it so far, for people like you who are just used to sitting and accusing everything indiscriminantly everything that is disagreeble with communist ideology, for people like you who preach that using logic is ELITE, for people like you who preach the communist ideology of making the populace stupid by discouraging innovation and discouraging any sort of excellence of the individual, for people like you who call people and things names which you cannot explain or prove- of course for such people who are a small minority of irritants to India's progress- this is surely an Elitist conspiracy!.
By your comment here today people can easily mesure you and know what sort of a person you are and beware when ever you post a intended brainwasing propaganda statement that you usually do.

This is exactly what is happening now. People could blame the high prices on Iraq, Iran or Kuwait or anywhere where the fuel is imported from, but its the higher demand for the oil that is pushing the prices up, in the end the sky is the limit, and to fulfil that demand they have to push the prices up. And with those daily use things are going up as well. Who is the loser and sufferer a common man. Have you seen in pakistan people cannot get Atta to make Roti for a day, where as in india there could be so many reason for Mehgai as well, over population, demand of excessive fuel for travelling in your cars or public trasport. Message: Tata Motor Car is a Revolution. It is firing the Common man dream that he will have a motor car one day. However, one needs to really look a little beyond the Froth of this Euphoria and really understand that there are many layers of cloud in the silver lining.
Tata Motors plans to launch the proposed Rs 1 lakh car in 2008. The price difference between a new Tata small car and a new bike would become too small to be overlooked by a young man (or woman) who is out to buy his first vehicle. I want to stress some outline quoted by the Tata motors as –
• Car will be a 4 door 5 seater
• Car will start off with a petrol Version
• Will be a Gearless vehicle
• Will be a bit noisier than an ordinary car
• There will be more expensive variants like air conditioning, power steering, power windows
• Motor to use certain plastic components for the car
Impact of the car
- Traffic on the roads would become even more maddening
- It is going to worsen the energy crisis. Millions of these cars will drain up all our country’s oil and petrol resources
- Competition will actually be very negative
And how one can industrialize in an agricultural state? The state acquiring land for a “Tata car” can hardly be justified under “public interest”.
India should go for better public transport instead of cheaper cars. Therefore, Mass Transit System should up quality. What India needs is more fuel efficient cars. It is quite possible that Tata motors may produce a brilliant automobile. It is just the Rs. 1 lakh car that we all are doubtful about.
Tata car is an idea which has come to stay our policy makers and the common man must learn to take this revolutionary concept with a pinch of salt.
Posted by: 9432 |
Message: Yes. Definately. Since the price of the car is very less And it is available at the cost of 2 wheeler. Any would prefer car to 2 Wheeler provided it gives the expedcted milage. It would surely revolutionise the automobile industry. Posted by: vijay_salian |
Message: This TATA Nano Car is called as Common man’s car. But the question is whether a real common man can afford such a Car which costs more than a lakh especially when his/her existence is on hand to mouth basis. Where is the parking space for him or her to park this Car when a family is living in just two rooms ? What about its maintenance ? What about the Petrol consumption ? All this talk of this Car serving the common man’s aspiration is pure humbug, skullduggery and a wrong notion about what a common man in India really is !! Posted by: Nariman_789 |

Message: There must be limits set for ourself and we must work within such boundaries. You cannot justify everything in the name of development and growth. Like for instance, you cannot eradicate the limited forest cover available in our Country which is very low by International standards in the name of development and say that we should move ahead with the times. It would be a sure recipe for disaster. The real need in this Country today is overall improvement in Public transport system which will only really help the common man and not launching of more Car models which can work only as hindrance to the common man while commuting to work. Even developed Countries like Singapore are discouraging people from procuring Cars while ironically in our Country where the infrastructure is in shambles, we are encouraging Cars. When are our Policy makers going to learn lessons ? Posted by: Nariman_789 |
Message: My dear Friend Mr Rajaye_Hind, The environmentalists have ample justification in their side of view. Moreover, such kind of ambitious launch in the name of catering to the common man can only worsen the International Oil prices which are already hovering around the $100 per barrel mark and is expected to cross even $200. Imagine the crippling effect, it will have on our economy as a whole !! Posted by: Nariman_789 |
Message: Such low priced cars will not serve any purpose in our Country and it will only be a bane. What is needed is drastic improvement in the public transport system as a whole !! Posted by: Nariman_789 |
Message: The question is whether the common man afford this car ? Mr Gale, who is common man according to you !! Posted by: Nariman_789 |
Message: My dear Friend Mr Rajaye_Hind, I am fine. Probably the Moderator is on a paid holiday. Thank you for agreeing to the issues I have raised. I only disagree with you on the question of affordability. I do not think those who belong to the real middle class can afford even this low priced Car. By middle class, I do not mean people who earn above Rs. 30,000- per month who I would label as rich. Unfortunately in this Country both the Media and the Government are twisting as to who is the real middle class !! Posted by: Nariman_789 |
Message: Mr. Narsimhan,
If you are concerned about traffic in cities you should first request the govt to built better roads and facilities.
While you say domestic sales of this small , fuel efficient and affordable car should be banned...how come u are not protesting about the Mercedes, VW, BMW, Toyota and Honda of the rich, which are 4 times bigger, consume 5 time the fuel for the same distance and cost 25-50 times nore than this small car.
So while the rich family where every member has a car will sit inside their imported car and pollute India...u want to deny some benefit to poorer indians who will have only one car per family.
this is hypocrisy at the very best.!! Posted by: pramodrama |
Message: Mr Gale, You cannot keep on justifying everything in the name of development and growth just for the sake of it. The reality as it exists in this Country should wake us up from slumber as otherwise there will be total urban chaos from which it will be difficult to retrieve. Moreover, calling this new Tata Car as catering to Middle class segment is totally false and contrary to truth. I do not think any family belonging to the real Middle class can afford the car even at this so-called low price of a lakh as they showcase. As usual, this car too caters only to the higher end who will now enjoy the luxury of owning more cars exclusively for their Sons and daughters. Imagine the wastage of fuel, pollution and traffic chaos and you will understand what I exactly mean !! Posted by: Nariman_789 |

Message: Hope you would all remember when Government (during Indira Gandhi's period) brought in Maruti (to help Sanjay Gandhi) it was meant to be a car for public. But later it was forced into Military (Maruti Gypsy) such that the then Mahindra and Mahindra jeeps were eliminated.
Once they did that Maruti 800 which was originally as per their version meant for middle class was sold at a premium.
A Private Enterprise has done which a government has failed to keep up their promise. After Tata's have announced a One Lakh car others are jumping into the foray. I feel Tata's intention is to be appreciated and supported. Tata's and Birla's had they thought only of their business they could have been in Liquor and Cigarettes. Message: While Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata is close to seeing his dream project -- the launch of the Rs 1-lakh 'people's car' -- become a reality, pundits and environmentalists across the country are quite sceptical of the consequences it will have on India's already strained infrastructure.
Even as Tata rattles other car companies -- including Maruti, Suzuki, Honda and Toyota -- most Indians are waiting with bated breath to catch a glimpse of the car, which will be unveiled at the Auto Expo in Delhi on January 10. Can India handle a likely surge in the number of cars? Will this car be environmentally safe? Will you buy this car?
Posted by: RAJAYE_HIND |
Message: As Tata Motors is reaching close to its target of revolutionising the automobile market with its Rs 1 lakh car, environmentalists have started to foresee the worsening of pollution levels in future. Anumita Roychoudhury of the Centre for Science and Environment, Delhi, pointed out that Tata's new car would compel other manufacturers to lower the prices of their vehicles, and thus create a huge demand for cars. She said that the spur in car ownerships would further damage the environment. Though Tata says that the car will not pollute more than the average motorcycle in India, Anumita wonders how the car can meet safety and emissions standards at such a low cost. "There is this mad rush towards lowering the prices to achieve mass affordability. If vehicle ownership increases very rapidly, we'll have a time bomb ticking away. When you lower the price that drastically, how will you be able to meet the safety and emissions standards? There are no clear answers yet," the Environmental News Network quoted Anumita as saying. "social welfare" is also served well and it is a boon.
In this context, one should do well to take note of the fact, that industrial development is different from, infrastructural development, which falls exclusively under the domain of both state and central governments,to cope up with the resultant, heavy traffic on the roads for a safe commuting. Both aspects are independent and interdependent too for a healthy growth of economy.
This brooks no delay in both planning and in implementation, taking ito consideration, the future growth rates alround. Posted by: GALE |

Message: Here I agreed with you 101% Mr. Nariman. Social organisation should come forward to stop this nonsense at govt. part. They should ask Govt. to make sure that becoz of traffic congestion if any poor person loss his job, it will be Govt's responsibility.
Before approving this kind of idiotic things, govt should develop proper infrastructure. In delhi with a preplanned theory they have already created a big problem for public transport users.
They sould first ensur that there should be a seprate road for Heavy transport i.e. for buses and trucks.
Instead bringing such toys on the road, govt. should make a rule that after a certain period frist hand car users have to sell the car and it should be avilable for poor community at a cheaper rate.
I suggestall the heavy vhecle owners to immdiately launch a protest so that in future they should not face any further big problems becoz of traffic congestion. Posted by: surtaal |

Message: The traffic situation in most Indian cities is already in shambles, with long snarls (especially during rush hour) causing wastage of much time and fuel. Two and three wheeler drivers are generally seen to be a nuisance on the road, driving dangerously and with scant regard to courtesy and traffic rules. Most of them, when they get their hands on a bigger vehicle, can be expected to carry on in the same vein without any regard to the fact that driving a car like a bike is much more dangerous and a much bigger nuisance to the rest of the traffic. It looks like a good way to further bloat our road accident numbers. Add to that the severe shortage of parking spaces in our cities, and we have the perfect recipe for total urban chaos. Another serious downside no one seems to have thought of is that most of our cities have long been the front runners in the dubious list of the most polluted cities in Asia and the world. They are desperately in need of good, clean, reliable and scalable public transport. All in all, unless we manage to build many more roads, widen our network and harbour more parking spaces than we currently have, unless we manage to educate drivers better before giving them a joke of a driving license and unless we take serious steps to combat fuel adulteration and the resultant pollution, the ‘one lakh car’ seems like a devil in disguise. It would be better if domestic sales are prohibited, initially at least, and it is manufactured for export only !! Posted by: Nariman_789 |
Message: I would first like to see how it looks looks are very important , then would like to know if it has a good mileage more mileage means better usage of our precious natural resources and finally that it does not have any emission problems it should be environment friendly, If all the above are there then why not it should be a great car for any body .............
