A religious issue at the heart of mass protests when Jammu and Kashmir is preparing for the next round of elections has made for an environment shattered by communal violence.

We've debated the issue at length with people who matter across Kashmir's political spectrum. The most recent discussion brought together prominent personalities like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Prof Chaman Lal Gupta on a single platform as they debated the crisis in the Valley on the The Big Fight.

Then we took this debate outside our studios and into your space. We asked Vikram Chandra to answer all your questions on the vexed issue of Kashmir. Here are the answers.

Your Questions | Answered Questions
Sanjay, Delhi: What do the people hope to achieve every time they fight over caste and religion- legitimacy? Why is it so difficult to fight for Unity, instead?
Pankaj, Delhi: What do you think is behind this greed behind the fight over a piece of land that has progressed to the level of such hatred, where human beings have lost their values, their sense of humanity?
Anjali, Delhi: Is intervention through coercion, or peaceful intervention i.e., through dialogue, the right way of handling this crisis?
Rashid, Srinagar: Indians always consider Kashimr to be an integral part of India. Why is it then when bullets were being showered on innocent civilians on their march to Muzaffarabad, just seeking an alternative route, the media was busy showing their olympic god medal win and the news about the shooting of innocent Kashmiris, killing 20 and wounding 300 others, was presented as if it happened in Afghanistan?
Pras, Mumbai: Can Kashmir survive without India?
Ghulam Mohammad Naikoo, Srinagar: Why doesnt India endorse the demand of right to self determination of Kashmiris and hold the pebliscite in this state?
Sukhmani Anand, Jammu: Hi Vikram

My question is that now that the Amarnath land has become a big issue in the country how come the Govt. is not coming to a solution? What was the use of so many talks? Why can't they see that Jammu and Kashmir is one state and they are looking after the need of Kashmir only and none from the Government has till now come forward for the solution of the problem of the Jammu people? What do you have to say about the solution of this problem and when can this issue be resolved from now? Till what time so many people would be suffering just because of our weak Government?

Rigzin Namgyal, Leh-Ladakh: Valley centric politics of successive govt. in the State and in centre has led to this crisis, this is not an issue of piece of land but simmering anger and frustation that has been brewing for years since Independence in Jammuite. The feeling of Ladakh and Ladakhi is no different. Short time political gain and solution offered has been main cause of every problem in India. I hope and pray that an amicable and long term solutions comes up and our politicians and beauracrates have wisdom to solve this crisis and many like this that has made the nation soulless.
Alok, Srinagar: Sir, I am final year student of B.tech in National Institute of technology, Srinagar and i just wanted to know MHRD has totally ignored our college in the ongoing scenario ! in the past one month of the present semester, we have only attended college on 3 days and that depends on the call of so called seperatist leaders. why was college of of national importance opened here in the first place if the government was aware of this political turmoil here..? why isnt media interested in highlighting the plight of about 1200 students from all over India who are stuck in this place, who shiver everytime they hear about some fanatics beating up Kashmiri in jammu and beyond region, thinking about their future ?????????????
Srinivasan Krishnan, Chennai: Why not the Government form a committee of highly respected indians from different walks of life who can win the confidence of Kashmiris and look at the issue
