Corrupt Games officials won't be spared: Sheila Dikshit to NDTV

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has made it clear that now that the Commonwealth Games are over, allegations of corruption will be probed on the specific orders of the Prime Minister.

In an exclusive interview to NDTV, she said that all those guilty of corruption must be punished as that is something the government owes to the people. (Read: Full transcript of interview)

"The Prime Minister has said it. Sonia Gandhi has said that corruption charges will be dealt with. We have enormous institutions in the Government. Corruption cannot get away," she said.

Sheila, who said that the biggest single problem ahead of the Games was the presence of too many agencies, now says Delhi has the experience to conduct the Olympics in the future.

"We must learn a lesson from this, but we have successfully conducted the second largest sporting event after the Olympics. I am confident that we can hold the Olympics but that is up to the Government to decide. I'll be happy if Delhi holds the Olympics, but I'll not be there," Sheila said.

"It's not an individual effort. Credit must go to the collective effort. What was lacking was the collective spirit. Once that happened, everything turned around," she added.
