Youth carrying gun near Games venue held

New Delhi: A young man was arrested allegedly with a gun from near the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the national capital but police said he had no intention to commit any crime at the Commonwealth Games main venue.

Jitender Kumar (26) was apprehended Saturday evening while he was walking near Jangpura flyover, which is close to the stadium where the events were taking place, a senior police official said.

However, the official said, Kumar had no intention to commit any crime at the stadium. "He was looking for a target on the road," he said.

He was allegedly carrying a .32 bore country-made pistol with him along with four live cartridges.

Kumar, who hails from Bihar, is staying in Kotla Mubarakpur. He has a criminal background, the official said.
