New Delhi:
A woman and her 20-year-old daughter are battling for life in a city hospital after they were attacked by an unidentified man who barged into their house in south Delhi on Friday morning.
The incident took place around 7.30 AM when the man attacked Monica (45) and her daughter Meghna with an iron rod at their residence in Lajpat Nagar, a senior police official said.
Monica's husband was not home at the time of the incident.
The attacker rang the door bell and when Monica opened the door, he barged into the house and attacked the mother-daughter duo, the official said.
"When the victims raised an alarm, the man fled from the spot leaving behind his car behind," the official said.
The women were rushed to Moolchand hospital where they are in coma, the official said.
Neighbours told the police that they heard the women screaming and they rushed towards their house.
The neighbours tried to catch the attacker but he managed to escape, the official said.
A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
"We could not record the statement of the victims as they are in a very serious state. All angles are being investigated," the official said.
