Woman gangraped for 51 days in captivity

Phagwara: A young woman dancer, who performs in marriages and other social functions, was allegedly gangraped for 51 days in captivity here, police said today.

According to police, a local woman dancer called the victim to her place on the pretext of getting her work with better emoluments in a troupe. However, when she went there on December 17, she was locked in a room in the woman's house at Udham Singh Nagar.

The victim was repeatedly raped by the local dancer's companions and was threatened with dire consequences if she tried to escape.

On February 6, she managed to escape and reached her sister's house at Phillaur and lodged a police complaint.

Her medical examination were conducted at local Civil Hospital on Thursday and cases under IPC sections 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) were registered against the local dancer, her two companions and some others.

No arrest has yet been made, police said, adding that investigations were on.
