Top Bangalore builder targeted, police confirms underworld don's hand

Bangalore: The office of Bangalore's prominent builder, Mantri Developers, was attacked on Saturday night. According to the police, two bike-borne men fired six bullets at the building located at the city's upmarket Vithal Mallya road. No one was injured in the attack.

Police say it's the handiwork of an underworld don who wants to create a scare in the city.

The attackers threw an envelope containing phone numbers and the initial 'RP', pointing at gangster Ravi Poojary, police say, adding that they chased the attackers and killed one of them identified as Poojary's henchman Chandu. The other person escaped.

"For the last one month, he has started giving call and one person Somashekhar of Jayanagar has received the call. We heard it realtime and recognised his voice threatening him," said Alok Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order).

NDTV has access to the records of the extortion call made to businessman Somashekhar a month ago. Here are the excerpts from the call:

Voice (over phone): You have to tell me what you have decided now...
Somshekhar: What I should decide sir?
Voice: I want the money
Somshekhar: What money? What money, how much money, for what?
Voice: 5 crores.. I have all the details about you, I know I know you are a big shot.

Investigations are on but the incident gives yet another proof that underworld dons are trying to gain foothold on the builder's industry in Bangalore.
