During a search operation on June 15 in hotels and guesthouses across the city, the Mumbai Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) stumbled upon a man who had kidnapped a minor girl.

The squad, while on the trail of terrorists, reached Ajmeri guesthouse in Bhindi Bazar, and found Tausif Pathan, a 22-year-old, with a 17-year-old girl.

"We were looking for anti-social elements but found Tausif who had brought the minor girl to Mumbai from Gujarat.

He was charged for kidnapping under sections 363 and 366 for kidnapping. The local ATS squad gets all credit for this arrest," said Shamsher Pathan, PI, Pydhonie police station.

A squad member said, "The boy's restlessness made us suspicious. The girl looked very young too."

Tausif was taken to the Pydhonie police station for interrogation, where it was revealed  that he had kidnapped the girl from Kapadganj village in Khedda district of Gujarat.

Tausif had allegedly promised marriage to the girl and then brought her to Mumbai on June 14.

When the police contacted Kapadganj authorities, it was found that an FIR was already registered against Tausif for kidnapping. He had allegedly lured two minor girls into having sex with him earlier as well.

After the arrest, the accused was produced in Mazgaon court and the Gujarat police was given a transit remand. The girl was sent to the children home at Dongri was then handed over to her family.
