Security drills for terror strikes at Delhi Metro stations

New Delhi: Security drills will be conducted at four Metro stations in the national capital tomorrow to check the preparedness of various agencies in case of a terror strike on the facilities.

The exercise will be conducted at Metro stations in Rajouri Garden, Mandi House, Netaji Subhash Place and Dilshad Garden at 11:30 am, a Delhi Metro spokesperson said.

"This entire exercise is likely to cause disruption of Metro services and inconvenience to passengers for about 15-20 minutes. Thereafter, normalcy will be restored," the spokesperson said.

Different scenarios like serial bomb blast, explosives laden truck hitting a Metro pillar, powerful bomb blast near ticket counter and explosion triggered by a human bomb will be enacted and the response of security agencies will be evaluated.

The mock drills will be supervised by officials from Delhi Disaster Management Authority.

"The aim of this drill is to check the preparedness of the DMRC staff and the security agencies in the wake of an unforeseen disaster like a terrorist attack. It will also test the coordination between the Delhi Metro staff, police and fire brigade in a disaster scenario," the spokesperson said.

More than 15 mock drills have been conducted at various Metro stations in the last five years in which scenarios such as terrorist attacks, evacuation of trains and stations, derailment and fire were created.
