NCP jumps into Jaldindi with 'green chariot'

Pune: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will participate in the Jaldindi, the annual river-ecology awareness campaign, with its Harit Rath (green chariot) to spread awareness about the burning issue of global warming. It is for the first time that a political party is participating in the Jaldindi.

City-based Jaldindi Pratishthan started Jaldindi in 2002, which travels 450 km from Alandi to Pandharpur, seeking to create awareness about cleanliness of rivers.

The NCP will be participating this year with its green chariot and spread the message against global warming through 30-minute power point presentations along the route of the Jaldindi.
MP from Baramati, Supriya Sule on Monday inaugurated the chariot in Pune. NCP city unit president Vandana Chavan said the party, in its Karla declaration, had announced to work for the cause of environment and against problems like global warming.

Chavan said she had started appointing green ambassadors in 22 cities in the state having municipal corporations, who will take up the cause of environment. She said 50 green ambassadors were appointed in Pune city and they had delivered more than 100 lectures on global warming.

Jaldindi Pratishthan president, Vishwas Yevale, said it was good that a political party was participating in conserving nature. He said all parties should come together by forgetting political differences at least for the cause of the environment.
