Navi Mumbai airport on hold

Navi Mumbai airport on hold
Mumbai: Bringing in more trouble for the Navi Mumbai Airport, an expert Appraisal committee setup by the Environment Ministry has deferred the airport proposal.

The Committee has asked City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra(CIDCO) to clarify several points and re-submit proposal.

"Destruction of 400 acres of mangroves at Navi Mumbai site will cause permanent environmental damage and cannot be compensated," said the Committee.

The Committee also asked the CIDCO to consider alternate sites including Wada, Ansoli and Kalyan instead of Navi Mumbai.

From the very time of its inception, the Navi Mumbai airport has been surrounded by controversies. After much criticism from the environmentalists, Praful Patel's Aviation Ministry had given a go-ahead nod to the airport.

However, with the new developments now seems like the Navi Mumbai airport is set to see more tumultuous times.
